The trash talking started days ago and built up right until puck drop. Heck, even in the dressing room while the parents tied the kids skates, smack was being thrown around like no ones business! And, as soon as the first skate blade hit the ice, you could tell that this was going to be one of those games that went down in history. Yup, one that will be talked about over the water cooler and on the playground at school tomorrow. Rushes down the ice, shots fired from all angles, scrambles in front of both nets, and breakaways that were worthy of being on the evening sports "play of the day".
Most importantly, there were smiles on everyone's faces. The kids, the paren and the fans that packed the rink! I know I had a blast being out there playing against my little guy. I love that #17 and we had fun jostling with one another on the ice and admiring one another's shoot out attempts. I'm glad that he us better moves than me out there already at the age of 10!
It makes me wonder why we get so caught up in the competitiveness of youth sports when we see how much fun kids have when the score doesn't matter and we are able to just play the game with family and friends cheering us on.
An awesome way to wrap up a Monday!
