Great weather, great golfing partners, and a lot of fun!

Enough said.

Being a day behind and knowing that it really doesn't matter

I'm a day behind in my blogging....in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter?
Nope!

I'm ok with that. I've learned to not make a big deal about things that aren't really a big deal.

Done!

Grade 12 Graduations

4 years of blood sweat and tears came to a conclusion last night at my school graduation ceremony. Hard to believe that these 150'ish young adults walked through outer school doors for the first time nearly 4 years ago and today leave us as graduates ready for the next adventure in their lives. Whether that be more more schooling, entry into the work force or taking time off to travel or evaluate your future, know graduates that there are many people who are extremely proud of your achievement!

Pick sixes by my daughter

Not one but two pick sixes by abi today in her final flag football game of the year. Oh  and she also got another pick.  Yup three in one game.

Phone is screwy so I'm cutting this one short.

Teamwork

You can't always goose who you get to work with and sometimes you need to make the best out of a situation. Sometimes it's those who you least expect it to rise to the challenge who do and surpass your expectations.
Working in schools for the last 15'ish years has taught me a lot of things and one of the most important of these is to go in with an open mind and help others be successful. I don't need the recognition but realize others do and for that I'm thankful that I can provide and witness this on a daily basis. Working with others can be frustrating and rewarding and today I experienced the rewarding side of things. I'm thankful for a colleague who quietly goes about their business and that I was able to experience working with them today. And I might say that we were extremely efficient and accomplished our task ahead of plan!

Bring on Friday!

5 work days until summer holidays but who's counting?

When everything goes according to plan

It's a good feeling when you spend hours planning out a large event and when the day finally comes, everything goes according to plan.

Approximately 180 future students, 20 student helpers and an awesome group to run some activities for our future grade 9's. Sure 1 group was a little late, but no one would have noticed if I hadn't have said anything. The attention to details paid off and fun was had by all, including me!

My home room kids

I've spent 15 minutes of almost every day of the school year with them for the past 3 years. In a few days, they complete their journey and graduate from grade 12. I remember when I first met them with my last grade 12 home room group. They were so young and shy! Today they are confident young adults and. I feel blessed to have been part of their lives for the past 3+ years.

Their paths may take them down different roads and I'm sure they will have their fair share of peaks and valleys with school, work, friends and family in the years to come. Regardless, I know that they have all made a permanent imprint on my life and I hope that in some small way I have done the same for them. I may run into them many years down the road or I may not ever hear from or see them again but one thing is for certain, I wish them all r best in whichever path they may take or find in the years to come. I am very proud of all of them and an excited to see them graduate and move on to the next chapter in their lives.

My peeps!

Thunderstorms

There's something about a good thunderstorm after a hot day. Noah and I got caught on the tennis court this afternoon when the skies opened up for the first time.
We had a good run to the car, giggling the whole way!
Absolutely drenched, it didn't damper our spirits.
Then, part 2 tonight while watching a movie with the kids. Thunder rumbling and lightening crackling, the skies opened up yet again.

I love seeing the sky illuminated by the flashes of lightening across the sky. Only way it could be better is if we were at the lake! Soon enough...

Last day of classes

The end is near! Today was the last day of classes for students before final exams start tomorrow. The school year isn't quite over but you can sense the excitement of students and teachers (including myself).

4 days of exams, grad, report card pick up day and a couple of days of meetings and clean up are all that's left before the final day, June 30.

It's been a good year but I'm ready for this chapter to close and the summer vacation to begin!

People who get it...whatever it may be

Had a really good meeting today with some Board Office people who were enquiring about some programming I'm involved with. I like those meetings where you can just say it as it is and people get it. There's no bs'ing, no hidden message or agenda, it's just the facts and how you feel about something. Now I'm not saying I expect anything to change, but at least I left the meeting feeling as though they "get it". That's gotta be worth something right?

Green lights

My run felt slow tonight. The last thing you want to do when you're having one of these runs is stop and then have to start again. I don't need to cross too many intersections in my running routes, but when I do, if traffic is heavy as it often is after school, I really don't like to stop at red lights.

Well, tonight was my night! Tired legs and that general feeling of wanting the run o be out sooner rather than later means that I really did not want to stop and start at the lights. The traffic light gods were on my side tonight! Just as I got to the couple of sets of lights, they turned from red to green!

Keep those feet moving Darryl!

Sunday's where you don't have to do anything you don't want to do

One of those Sunday's! Didn't have to get up at a certain time, didn't have to go anywhere in particular. Could just do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it.

CFL Season

First preseason game of the year for the Riders. Slow start for us, down 18-6 at the half but it's great to be at Mosaic Stadium for the first game of the Farewell season before the Riders move into the new Mosaic Stadium.

Sweet seats! Thanks for taking me Cindy!

Personal days

Almost forgot I had to use it!
Perfect day....
Walked the kids to school, went for a run, haircut, picked weeds (ok, not so perfect activity but at least it was sunny and warm!), football practices, listening to some great songs, having a couple of beer and a great chat with someone very special!

Architecture

This one is for you Troy and Laura....

Sometimes we don't pay attention to the fine details on things and we take so much for granted. Take buildings for example. Sure sometimes we go Wow, that's a cool building, but do we really notice the detail and recognize all that goes into the construction and the finite details of the end product? Rarely.

Some pretty cool details in the Saskatchewan Legislative building. Abi got a kick out of finding some of the amazing details and learning a little about the construction of his historic landmark that was erected in the early 1900's.
If you get a chance, take a tour of a building like this in whatever city you're in. You'll gain a new appreciation for those behind such amazing projects.
My hat off to all you architects and engineers out there!

Vi-co

Blast from the past! Trip down memory lane for me tonight while Abi and I were at the Legislative building in Wascana Park.

We thought we'd kill a few minutes in the Leg tonight while Noah was at tennis lessons. As we were scanning through artifacts and pictures in the entrance of the Leg, something caught my eye and unless you're from Saskatchewan, you won't get it.

I did my best to explain Vi-co to my daughter but because she didn't live it, she'll never quite get it. Regardless, I love nostalgic things like this, as simple as it may be. It brought me back to my childhood in a flash!

Mmmmm.....what I wouldn't do for a cold glass of Vi-co right now!

Shirts that make people look twice at you

It doesn't come out often, but it just felt right today. Abi was ecstatic that I wore it to school today.

Fun filled beautiful summer evenings

What a night!
I've gotta say, I was a little pooped when I got home and made supper but a trip to the park was just what the doctor ordered!
Football, soccer, softball, baseball, great company and ice cream!
Smiles and giggles all around for everyone.
This is what summer is all about!

Thanks for joining us K & C! We'll have to do it again real soon.

Surprise pizza lunches

One of those days where my fridge was pretty empty and I didn't pack much of a lunch. So, in the morning, a colleague says "hey Darryl, we're having a pizza lunch today, you should come by for a piece of pizza or 2".

Giddy-up!

Sometimes the stars in the universe align in my favour!

Only thing better than pizza, is free pizza!
